February Gold

2010 saw Canada's mens Olympic hockey team win gold in February, the birth of our son in March, and the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup in June.

2013 saw the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup in June, the birth of our daughter in October, and a few months later in early 2014 the Canada's mens Olympic hockey team won gold.

It's like these three things: Stanley Cups for our favorite hockey team, a Boyd baby, and Olympic Gold, always come in quick succession for us.

Or maybe I have that syndrome where I look for patterns where there are none... what's that called again?

In any case, Canada's men (and women for that matter) brought home a hockey Gold for Canada in the winter olympics this year, and my men got up at 4am to watch it all unfold. Well, Jake got up at 6am, but for him that's as good as getting up at 4.

Amelia and I chose to sleep. We were up at 5:30 am for some warm milk, but we fell asleep again pretty quickly. Around here the only thing better than gold is sleep, so it was a no brainer for us girls.

I wonder what the next Olympic year will bring us?

I heart Valentine's

I have said it before and I'll say it again. I love Valentine's Day.

It's second only to Christmas for me. There is just something about having a day devoted entirely to love that just makes me smile, and it's not even like husband and I go all out. We don't, and the thought of spending Valentine's Day crammed into a little table in a corner of a busy over priced restaurant kind of turns me off. I'd rather pan fry steaks and eat them over candle light and a glass of wine at home, decorate the house in cheesy red and pink homemade decorations, bake heart shaped cookies and chocolate cake, have a dance party and call it a well loved day.

This year, that is just what we did.

Tie a string to the top of these bad boys and you've got Valentine door hangers for preschool friends and neighbours.
My Valentines....

I'm sorry, that photo didn't get her heart print socks:

There you go. You're welcome.

And the annual red and pink smartie wacky chocolate cake. An old family favorite.

Last but not least, our Valentine dance party, (we had another one that night after dinner. Complete with dad and his flash light strobe light.)
